Managed Student Loan Portfolio Reaches $160 Billion

RESTON, Va., Oct. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SLM Corporation SLM, commonly known as Sallie Mae, today reported third-quarter 2007 earnings and performance results that include a 13-percent rise in its student loan originations to $8.9 billion, from the 2006 third quarter's $7.8 billion. Year-to-date 2007, student loan originations were $20.5 billion, compared to $18.6 billion in the same period last year. The company's managed student loan portfolio totaled $160 billion at the end of the third-quarter 2007.
